Very Reverend Father Seth Ya Amaku Ado
This morning, my spirit stirred deeply. I had to share the story of the man who changed my life and ministry — Very Reverend Father Seth Ya Amaku Ado, a Ghanaian-born priest who became a monk in the Diocese of Chichester, England.
🕯️ A Mission in Ruins, A Saint Sent by God
In 1994, Father Seth was sent to St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Douala, Cameroon — a mission in despair. The Diocese on the Niger had pulled back due to hostility and spiritual dryness. The church was desolate. Hope had vanished.
But then, God sent us this gentle monk.
He came quietly. Lived humbly. Prayed deeply.
Though I was just 8 or 9 years old, I was drawn to him. He introduced me to the altar and allowed me to serve. That act planted a seed — the seed of priesthood in my heart.
👣 He Walked With Me
Father Seth didn’t just mentor me. He inspired me. I spent countless hours at his home, learning, watching, growing.
Years later, when I became an ordinand, I traveled to Ghana. He welcomed me. When I was ordained a deacon — and later a priest — he flew all the way from Ghana to stand beside me.
He gave me four chasubles. One — a red one — was passed to him by a 90-year-old Scottish priest. He said:
“Cherish this. It carries grace.”
That vestment is my most treasured. It carries legacy and anointing.
🕊️ His Legacy Lives On
In 2016, the news came: Father Seth had passed.
But I carry his legacy. He mentored me intentionally. He walked with me to the end.
Distance was not a barrier. Time was not a limitation. His life was his message.
