As the bells of All Saints Cathedral chimed in unison, heralding a new spiritual season, the Diocese on the Niger welcomed its newly appointed Archdeacons and Canons to a retreat that will remain etched in the hearts of all who attended. It was more than a ceremonial event—it was a holy convocation of recommitment and deep spiritual reflection.Guided by the retreat theme, “Renewing the Shepherd’s Heart,” this sacred event marked a turning point for the clergy who were called not only to higher ecclesiastical offices but also to deeper intimacy with Christ and service to His people.
I was humbled and honored to serve as Retreatant for this transformational encounter. Coming from the Church of Nigeria North America Mission (CONNAM), my heart was filled with joy to witness firsthand the vibrant spiritual fervor that characterizes the Diocese on the Niger under the inspired leadership of The Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Chiedozie NwokoloThe retreat sessions were rich with Anglican tradition, spiritual discipline, and practical preparation. From in-depth lessons on liturgical responsibility and sacred vestments to reverent altar preparation and sacramental practices, our clergy were re-equipped not only for ritual precision but for heartfelt pastoral care.
This retreat was not a mere formality—it was a call to holy living and renewed spiritual fervor. Each hymn sung, prayer whispered, and lesson absorbed was a flame added to the rekindled hearts of God’s shepherds.
As we return to our various ministries, may the fire lit during this retreat continue to burn in every sermon, every sacrament, and every soul we are privileged to serve.Let us move forward with the charge:
“To serve the present age, my calling to fulfill; O may it all my powers engage, to do my Master’s will!”
