By Ven. David Chimezie Nwanekpe
To every father out there, today I write not just to say “Happy Father’s Day,” but to pour out what many cannot say—and what some are too broken to admit.
I see you.
I see the man who wakes before the rest of the world and only lays down to sleep after the house has grown silent. The one whose tired eyes hide oceans of pain, so his family won’t be swept away by worry. You wear your pain like armor—smiling through rejection, standing firm when misunderstood, enduring betrayal from the very ones you live and sacrifice for.
You are often misread. You’ve been falsely accused. Sometimes, you’re cast as the villain in stories you wrote with your own blood, sweat, and self-denial.
You carry the unbearable weight of being strong when your spirit is weary. You’ve laid your own dreams aside so others can chase theirs. You push your needs down just to keep food on the table, bills paid, and peace reigning in your home.
You’ve endured the sting of silence—your children siding against you, your absence being seen as neglect rather than a product of duty, and your quiet strength mistaken for guilt. But you say nothing. Not because you are weak, but because your love is louder than any defense you could ever give.
Behind your firm gaze lies a heart broken not by strangers, but by the ones you’ve shielded, sheltered, and sustained. The same hands that built walls of protection are sometimes the ones blamed for being too tough, too distant, too silent.
But your silence? It is sacred.
It is the cost of peace.
The cross you bear is often invisible—hidden under your suit, your work clothes, your cassock, or your uniform. And yet, you bear it daily, faithfully, without applause.
To the fathers whose children no longer call…
To those whose stories are only half told…
To those remembered only in moments of need…
Take heart. God sees you.
“The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.” — Proverbs 20:7
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid… for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” — Deuteronomy 31:6
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you.” — Psalm 55:22
Even when this world forgets your sacrifice, Heaven does not.
Even when your name fades from their stories, your tears are kept in God’s bottle.
Your reward is not forgotten.
So today, I salute you.
Not just as a father—but as a silent warrior.
A man of God who keeps standing when no one sees the battlefield.
A man whose story is sacred.
Happy Father’s Day.
Keep standing. You are not alone.
